About
Our story begins in 2015. Jasmine, one of the best-known theater and circus costume designers in the country, received an unexpected phone call from Ruth. At that time, Ruth was a young fashion design student at Shenkar, looking for an internship for the summer in-between semesters. The conversation was focused and purposeful – “are you good? "Jasmine asked. "Yes” Ruth answered, and that’s how the three-month internship began. We never imagined how well this relationship would work. We successfully managed to bring together the worlds of fashion and theater; we took street theater into festivals, we created a trendy circus, live statues, dolls and a lot more.
Our joint work and the spark that fueled us, naturally led us to open Studio Groteque - a studio for designing, producing and renting theatrical premium costumes in Israel and around the world. Our perfect collaboration: Jasmine Volk, a fashion and costume designer who graduated from Bezalel and creates in the circus costume studio and theater "Jasmine Volk Studioolo", and Ruth Philosoph, fashion and theater designer who graduated from Shenkar and a "House 9" puppet maker graduate, allows us to create a vast range of different items, setting our imagination free and giving life to our customers’ imagination as well.

Our Many Sources of Inspiration
Our inspiration and ideas have no limits! We are inspired by classical and renaissance period clothing, folk tales and legends, fantasy stories, folkloristic materials, modern art, contemporary fashion productions, huge shows in Israel and around the world, Comedy del Arte – the Masquerade Festival in Venice, Burning Man, Cosplay Costume Festival and anything you can imagine.

One of the goals of the studio is to enable a fusion between the coveted fashion world and the world of fantasy theater by making our spectacular costume inventory accessible.
We carefully select the special items for each production and make the necessary adjustments in order to achieve the best result.
